Open Access Policy

UVSM Publications LLC is committed to making scholarly work freely accessible to researchers, students, and the public. All publications are available under an open access model.

Access

All UVSM publications are freely available in full text upon publication. No subscription, institutional access, or payment is required to read any work published by UVSM Publications. Landing pages, abstracts, and full-text content are accessible without login or registration.

License Tiers

UVSM uses a two-tier licensing model. The applicable license is displayed on each publication’s landing page and embedded in the work itself.

Tier 1: CC BY-NC 4.0 – Engagement Works

Whitepapers, working papers, and journal articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

This license maximizes scholarly impact by allowing academics to engage with, build on, cite, and teach from the material while keeping commercial rights reserved.

Tier 2: CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 – Foundational Texts

Books, formal proofs, and core theoretical works are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

This license protects the integrity of works where the precise formulation is essential – ensuring that altered versions of formal arguments and notation do not circulate.

Publisher Editions

Print and publisher editions sold by UVSM carry standard copyright with all rights reserved, regardless of the license applied to the open access version.

Self-Archiving

Authors are encouraged to deposit preprints and accepted manuscripts in open repositories such as PhilArchive, arXiv, and SSRN. Preprints should include a note indicating the work is forthcoming from or published by UVSM Publications, with a DOI link when available.

Exceptions

If a specific publication carries license terms other than those described above, those terms will be clearly stated on the publication’s landing page and in its metadata.

Rationale

UVSM publishes work intended to contribute to foundational understanding across multiple disciplines. Open access maximizes the reach, citability, and long-term impact of this work. The two-tier model balances two goals: enabling scholarly engagement with material meant to be built upon, and protecting the integrity of foundational texts where the precise formulation matters.
